Osaka describes the mental pressure that arises when she and the other stars have to answer the same questions over and over again or get questions that make them doubt themselves.

"I will simply not expose myself to people who doubt me," the 23-year-old writes.

Most major tennis tournaments fine players who do not answer questions after the matches and Osaka writes that she is fully prepared for the consequences and that she hopes that the expected fine - "a considerable sum" - will go to charities that work against mental illness.

Naomi Osaka won the Australian Open earlier this year and has so far won four grand slam titles in singles.

In Paris, she has at best gone to the round of 16.

This year's tournament starts on Sunday.
