Bäckström wanted to play the World Cup - forced to say no

The idea was that the circle would end in Riga for Nicklas Bäckström.

It was here that he wrote history as the youngest Swede to play a World Cup for Tre Kronor.

But a troubled hip that he was dragged with throughout the playoff series against Boston puts a stop to it.

Bäckström, on the other hand, can look back on a fine basic series where he became the best scorer among the Swedes.
