The four in a row. Stade Rennais has definitely taken a liking to European games. For the fourth year in a row, the Breton club will play Europe next season. Not the Champions League or the Europa League, as in previous campaigns, but the Europa Conference Conference, the new competition created by UEFA. "We are of course satisfied because the objective has been reached, well not quite yet because there is still a playoff to play", underlined the coach Bruno Genesio at the end of the meeting. "This shows in any case that there is a consistency in sporting success and that the club is gradually settling at the top of the table and among the big French teams", continued the coach.

In this roller coaster season, Rennes will therefore have succeeded in winning their goal at the start of the season.

But how tense the evening was!

Facing Nîmes already relegated, Rennes knew before kick-off that they had to do better than Lens to snatch their precious sesame.

In a rather controlled match, Bruno Genesio's men, pushed by 500 furious supporters on their arrival at the stadium, did the job without forcing too much (2-0).

It was Sehrou Guirassy who started the evening perfectly by taking a head from a cross from Doku (25th).

Benjamin Bourigeaud then carried the blow by sending a minasse of which he has the secret in the skylight of Reynet (50th).

Bourigeaud "happy" for the supporters

The meeting was then folded at Roazhon Park and the fate of Rennes was now played on the side of Bollaert. The deliverance will arrive around 10:50 pm, the referee Jérémie Pignard whistling the end of the game between Lens and Monaco (0-0) and the end of hopes for the Blood and Gold, yet authors of a very good season. The Rennes players could then hug on the sodden lawn and the supporters having braved the curfew light smoke and fireworks outside the stadium.

“We had a complicated season and we missed the supporters,” said Benjamin Bourigeaud.

So we are happy for them and we know why we did that today ”.

The last to speak at a press conference, sports director Florian Maurice also made a point of dedicating the qualification to President Nicolas Holveck, still recovering to treat his cancer.
