It's over for Hiroki Sakai.

The Japanese international defender announced on Instagram on Monday his departure from OM after five seasons at the club.

“At the end of the season, I decided to leave Europe and put an end to my Marseille dream,” wrote the 31-year-old player.

“Indeed, when I arrived in Marseille, I had decided that OM would be in my last European club and I did not change my mind,” he continued.

Arriving in 2016 from Hanover, Sakai played 184 matches for Olympians, and scored two goals.

He was notably voted best player of the 2018/19 season by Marseille supporters.

The native of Kashiwa was linked to OM until 2022, before announcing his departure.
