Better late than never.

Stade Rennais was until now one of the few Ligue 1 clubs not to have a women's section.

Often mentioned, the project was swept aside by the back of the hand by former president Olivier Létang.

His successor Nicolas Holveck seems more connected by women's football.

At the beginning of last July, he announced that a section would see the light of day and integrate the new training center, called "Piverdière 2".

Almost ten months later, the project took shape.

It will first of all revolve around a women's football school for the U8 category.

“Stade Rennais' desire is to lay a solid first foundation for this project in order to extend this women's section to new age categories in the years to come, with a major objective: to achieve, with the first team, one of the 2 highest divisions of the French championship within 5 years ”, indicates the Breton club in a statement.

A detection day on June 9

From next season, thirty young girls aged 5 to 7 will wear the Rouge et Noir jersey.

They will be welcomed by two educators on the training grounds of La Piverdière on Tuesday and Saturday, thus offering "the opportunity for young girls from the region to practice the sport they love in the best conditions", according to Nicolas Holveck, cited by the club.

To build its team, the club is organizing a detection day on Wednesday June 9 with a new test day for the selected candidates on June 23.
