The ATP 250 tournament in Geneva is already over for Roger Federer.

The Swiss legend was eliminated from the start on Tuesday by the Spaniard Pablo Andujar, 75th in the world (4-6, 6-4, 4-6), for his first match on clay in nearly two years.

Uncomfortable on his serve, Federer (8th in the world) lost the first set and won the second, before spoiling a break ahead in the third round to lose in 1 h 54.

The very limited public support of the Eaux-Vives court (around one hundred people), health restrictions required, was not enough.

The last appearance of "RodGER" his less good surface, dated June 7, 2019, when he lost in the semi-final of Roland-Garros against Rafael Nadal.

Wimbledon goal

Since then, the pandemic has turned everything upside down, and Federer, now 39, has only appeared very occasionally on the courts, with a double knee operation that took him away from the circuit for more than a year between February 2020 and March 2021.

Two and a half months away from his 40th birthday, which he will celebrate on August 8, the Swiss played his third match of the year on Tuesday, he who aims to be 100% at Wimbledon again (June 28-July 11) .

On the London turf, he will aim for a 21st Grand Slam title and ninth in London, absolute records for men.

Suffice to say that we should not expect miracles at Roland Garros, which begins on May 30.
