Tina Punzel and Lena Hentschel won the next title for the German team in Budapest in a real water jump thriller at the European Swimming Championships.

In the synchronized jumping from the three-meter board, the duo from Dresden and Berlin won with 307.29 points and a mini-lead of 0.09 points over the Italians Elena Bertocchi and Chiara Pellacani.

“We were always close to gold and today we showed that we can win gold too,” said the 25-year-old Punzel, recalling past competitions.

“We are proud and very happy.” Hentschel, who is six years younger, also cheered.

"It was a really great competition", she said and emphasized after the World Cup and the European Championship: "The grand finale of the trip is unbelievable."

On the day after bronze, Timo Barthel and Patrick Hausding in synchronized diving could be satisfied with fourth place in high diving even without precious metal.

The only 16-year-old Jaden Eikermann took seventh place.

The victory went to Aleksander Bondar from Russia.

For Punzel it was the fourth medal and the second title in Budapest, the water divers were happy about eight precious metals. With four gold, one silver and three bronze medals, the water divers were even better than at the acclaimed European Championships 2014 in Berlin. At that time they had won three gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
