Anna van der Breggen won the Gran Premio Ciudad de Eibar on Sunday.

The 31-year-old rider settled on the final climb in the difficult one-day race in Spain with Annemiek van Vleuten.

Van Vleuten placed several attacks on the climb to the Santuario de Arrate (4.3 kilometers at 8.8 percent), but she did not get away.

Van der Breggen countered and did make a hole.

The reigning Olympic and world champion had a lead of sixteen seconds on Van Vleuten on the line.

The Italian Elisa Longo Borghini finished third in 42 seconds.

Lucinda Brand was third Dutch in fourth place.

For Van der Breggen it is her third victory of the year, after victories in the Omloop Het Niewsblad and the Waalse Pijl.

She rode her first race in the Basque Country since her fifth place in Liège-Bastogne-Liège three weeks ago.

The GP Ciudad de Eibar is not a WorldTour race.

It is the third one-day race in Spain in a four-day period.

Van Vleuten won the Emakumeen Nafarroako Women's Elite Classics on Thursday and finished third in the Navarra Women's Elite Classics won by the Cuban Arlenis Sierra on Saturday.
