Lea Boy from Würzburg is European swimming champion over 25 kilometers.

The 21-year-old achieved her greatest international individual success on Sunday in Hungary and the first German European Championship title in this discipline since Angela Maurer's victory in 2006. Lea Boy won in Budapest after 4:53:57 hours ahead of Lara Grangeon from France and Barbara Pozzobon from Italy.

Elea Linka (Barsbüttel) finished sixth.

Jeannette Spiwoks (Essen) ended the race early.

For the German open water swimmers, Boy's success brought the third medal in the title fights.

The last time there was gold was at the EM in 2014 in Berlin.

In the men's category, the Frenchman Axel Reymond underlined his exceptional position over the longest distance.

The 2017 and 2019 world champion won the European Championship race over 25 kilometers.

After 4: 35: 59.8 hours he struck in front of the Italian Matteo Furlan and the Russian Kirill Abrosimow.
