22-year-old Harrison attracted international attention in March when he took 2.30 and 8.45 indoors within two hours.

The tension phenomenon continued on the paved road in Texas where his 2.36 was an increase of the personal record by six centimeters.

He finished the race after the 2.36 jump without tearing any height.

In the long jump, 8.24 was two decimetres from his world year best of 8.44 from the end of April.

Harrison finished second in the competition after Jamaican Carey McLeod who won the personal best of 8.34.

Highest jump since the 2019 World Cup final

The last time anyone jumped higher was in the World Cup final in Doha in October 2019 when Mutaz Essa Barshim won in front of the home crowd at 2.37.

Even among the ladies, it was an impressive double that was noted in the sick fight.

Tyra Gittens from Trinidad and Tobago won the high jump of 1.95 and the long jump of 6.96, which gave the highest score these two disciplines were noted for.

Of the 6418 points she scraped together in total in the seven-fight, the jumping double gave 2330 points.

Carolina Klüft recorded in her record series (7032 points) at the World Championships in Osaka 2007 1.95 and 6.85 as a comparison.
