  It is understood that the Chengdu Universiade is the third time the Universiade is held in mainland China after the 2001 Beijing Universiade and the 2011 Shenzhen Universiade. It was originally scheduled to be held in August this year.

The event has 18 competition events including archery, basketball, and volleyball. There are 49 training venues for the competition, including 13 newly built venues and 36 renovated venues.

  In April of this year, taking into account the global epidemic situation and international travel restrictions, the International University Sports Federation, after discussing with the Chinese University Sports Association and the Chengdu Universiade Organizing Committee, decided to postpone the event.

It aims to protect the safety and health of all relevant personnel, including athletes, and the people in the hosting cities.
