Daley Blind was included in the pre-selection of the Dutch national team for the European Championship that starts next month on Friday.

Jurriën Timber, Cody Gakpo, Rick Karsdorp and Anwar El Ghazi also belong to the provisional group of national coach Frank de Boer, while Ryan Babel is surprisingly missing from the list of 34 players.

The 31-year-old Blind tore the front tire of his left ankle at the end of March in the World Cup qualifying match against Gibraltar (0-7 win) and had to go under the knife.

The 77-time international immediately put an end to his season with Ajax, but kept hoping for the European Championship.

De Boer was positive about Blind's rehabilitation last week.

Blind's successful recovery is good news for the national coach, who does not have access to his captain Virgil van Dijk at the European Championship.

The Liverpool defender suffered a serious knee injury at the beginning of this season and announced this week that the European title fight comes too early for him.

Strikingly absent from the pre-selection is 34-year-old Babel.

The attacker of Galatasaray has been assured of a place with the Orange in recent years and has been on fire for his club in recent weeks, but is still out of the boat a month before the European Championship.

In addition to Babel, Kevin Strootman, Justin Bijlow, Joël Drommel, Sven Botman, Mitchel Bakker, Calvin Stengs, Myron Boadu and Mohamed Ihattaren, among others, are not included in the pre-selection.

Preselection must be reduced to 26 players

The preliminary group has yet to be reduced to a final selection of 26 players, which De Boer will announce on May 26.

From 24 to 26 May there is a training internship on the program with players who no longer have club obligations.

The Orange will then work on a training camp in Lagos, Portugal, from May 29 to June 5, and will play an exhibition game with Scotland on June 2.

In the run-up to the European Championship, there will also be practiced against Georgia (June 6) in the Grolsch Veste.

The Dutch national team starts the European Championship on June 13 with a match against Ukraine in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Austria (June 17) and North Macedonia (June 21) are the other opponents of Orange in group C.
