Former German international goalkeeper
Jens Lehmann
was banned from Hertha Berlin's Board of Directors on Wednesday, an hour after the posting of one of his WhatsApp messages asking if a Sky TV commentator was part of "a quota of blacks ".
"Is Dennis there to cover your black quota?"
Lehmann wondered with a smiling icon about the presence of former German international
Dennis Aogo
as a commentator on Sky on Tuesday for the Champions League game between Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. Apparently by mistake, Aogo received the message, which was not intended for him, and posted it on Instagram.
Lehmann claimed to have immediately apologized to Aogo, praising his qualities as a commentator. Speaking to
Bild
, Lehmann acknowledged that his message was "awkwardly worded" but was trying to be "positive."
"I am responsible for the fact that that WhatsApp message came out of my phone, it was a private message," he
tried to explain, without revealing the name of the recipient.
Lehmann sat on the Board of Directors of Hertha Berlin as representative and advisor to the main shareholder,
Lars Windhorst
, patron of Tennor Holding.
"We have canceled the advisory contract with Jens Lehmann, which
puts an end to his activity on the Board of Directors of Hertha Berlin,
" a spokesman for Tennor Holding said on Wednesday.
"The incident is not compatible with the principles of the company," added this spokesperson in a statement to the SID agency.
