This weekend, European Championship medalist Karoline Bjerkeli Grövdal ran a five-kilometer street race in the time of 14.39.

Four seconds faster than Kenyan Beatrice Chepkoech, who holds the world record for distance.

The 30-year-old Norwegian has proudly posted on social media that she has broken a new world record.

But that joy disappears for her.

The race with the finish line in Disenå outside Oslo was not controlled before the start, but it is now.

And the organizer confirms for NRK that the runners ran 12.5 meters too short.

Apologize

"We would like to apologize for the fact that Karoline's fantastic performance has not been approved as a record," the organizer wrote in a statement.

Bjerkeli Grövdal and her coach did not know that she only ran 4,988.5 meters.

- On the other hand, we knew that it was not officially measured.

The race was moved, and due to corona restrictions, it was not possible to get an approved inspector there.

But she has at least proved that she is in good shape, says coach Knut Jäger Hansen.
