The Olympiastützpunkt Sachsen (OSP) has separated from the Chemnitz gymnastics trainer Gabriele Frehse.

"The employment relationship between OSP Saxony and the trainer Gabriele Frehse was terminated," said OSP director Thomas Weise on Tuesday upon request.

Because of the "sensitive process", they did not want to give any further details, the OSP said.

Several media had previously reported on it.

The trainer is accused by a number of former athletes around ex-world champion Pauline Schäfer of harassing her during training, administering medication without a doctor's prescription and not allowing any objection.

Frehse had denied the allegations, about which the news magazine "Der Spiegel" first reported, several times.

Frehse says it wants to take action against the termination.

“I am convinced that this dismissal will not stand up to legal scrutiny and that I will have to be reinstated.

The last word on this will not be the DTB or the OSP, but the labor court ”, Frehse told the online portal“ gymmedia.de ”in an interview.

The German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) welcomed the OSP's decision in a statement on Tuesday.

DTB rejects continued employment as volunteers

The DTB had an independent investigation report drawn up on the allegations by a law firm in Frankfurt, the exact content of which Frehse has not yet been able to see.

The report published by the association in January came to the conclusion, as Alfons Hölzl, President of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) said at the time, "that we are dealing with psychological violence, not physical and sexual violence" .

In the interview, Frehse announced that she would initially be available to her association TuS Chemnitz-Altendorf as a volunteer instructor.

With this, "the training for the current athletes should be carried out and maintained in full," she explained.

Frehse added: "Because the most important thing that we should all be united is that the gymnasts can be given the best possible preparation for the Olympics."

The DTB rejects this.

“Any other activity by Ms. Frehse in connection with the care of athletes at the Olympic base / federal base is excluded.

This has been agreed with the State Sports Association of Saxony.

We see the Olympic base as responsible for this, ”said the DTB.
