Seven months earlier, doctor Giorgio Galanti had given Astori the go-ahead to play, even though there was evidence that he was suffering from heart disease.

Galanti was investigated for causing another person's death and now an Italian court announces that he will be sentenced to one year probation.

According to information, he is also sentenced to pay a fine of 1 million euros to Astori's family.

Prosecutors argued that the doctor should have performed more in-depth examinations based on the results of a heart stress test.

Will appeal

Galanti's lawyer has announced that he will appeal the verdict.

According to the autopsy report, Astori died as a result of tachyarrhythmia, rapid and irregular heartbeat.

Davide Astori played 14 international matches for Italy.

He turned 31 years old.
