Algerian footballer Walid Mesloub, who visited Lorient and Lens in particular, was indicted last week for laundering drug trafficking.

He would be implicated for his links with a man suspected of being the head of a drug trafficking network.

Walid Mesloub, Algerian international midfielder who notably played in Lens and Lorient, was indicted last week for laundering drug trafficking, in a case where he claims his innocence, we learned Thursday from the prosecution from Lorient.

The prosecution refuses to be precise but, according to the daily newspapers L'Equipe and Le Télégramme, he is implicated for his links with a man suspected of being at the head of a drug trafficking network and with whom he shared a passion for beautiful cars.

Several luxury cars were seized

During the investigation of this man, the police seized several luxury cars, some of which had been bought by Mesloub, who then exchanged them for other cars and possibly a supplement in cash, according to the two dailies.

Contacted by AFP, Mesloub's lawyer was not immediately available but in a message on social networks, the player denounced a "blah blah (...) to create a buzz" and promised: "Light will be shed on this matter."

Aged 35, Walid Mesloub, born in the Paris region, made his professional debut in Le Havre in 2010, before joining Lorient in 2014 and then Lens in 2018. He has seven selections for the Algerian team, mainly in 2015/2016. In January 2020, he had tried the adventure in Qatar, but returned in September. Now without a club, he trains with the Lens reserve.
