The Tokyo Olympics have submitted a request to get 500 Japanese nurses to the Olympic Games, which take place between July 23 and August 8.

But the Olympic organizer has met with real resistance.

The nurses have protested.

They believe that they are not a "consumable", and that they should not be relocated to an "unnecessary" event as covid cases have increased in Japan.

"Get your priorities in order"

The care staff wants to focus on covid cases in the country.

The nurses feel that they have a responsibility towards their patients and have called on Japan to "get their priorities in order", writes The Straits Times.

Japan is in its fourth wave of covid-19.

Today, there were 5,789 new cases in the country.

In Tokyo, there were 925 infections, the highest number since January 28.

Dr Shigeru Omi, head of the country's corona committee, said on Wednesday that it was "time to discuss the Olympic Games in view of the spread of the infection and the efforts that have affected hospitals".
