Feyenoord coach Dick Advocaat does not blame Steven Berghuis after his red card on Sunday in the home game against Vitesse (0-0).

According to him, the ferocity is part of the playing style of his captain.

Berghuis lost the ball fifteen minutes before the end, after which he started his sliding too late and Maximilian Wittek hit hard from behind.

The defender of Vitesse had to leave the field injured a few minutes later.

“It is a valid red card, because he is much too late.

He says that himself, ”said Lawyer about the Berghuis map in front of the

Berghuis, who received his first direct red card in his career, is the only Feyenoord player to have been sent off twice this season.

He also had to leave early during the 4-3 defeat against Heerenveen.

"Berghuis is a real winner and things like this keep happening in his career. You shouldn't want to take this out of his game, because he remains a fantastic player."

'Difficult match for the referee'

The foul by Berghuis was certainly not the only moment when referee Dennis Higler had to take action.

Feyenoord made 21 fouls against Vitesse, the highest number in an Eredivisie match since September 2016 (26 against ADO Den Haag).

"It was a difficult match for the referee," said Lawyer.

"We had to fight a lot to get chances, because the first half was more messy and bad. After the break that worked better with a different attitude and then we created enough opportunities. Then you just have to reward yourself."

Feyenoord makes little progress with the draw against number four Vitesse.

As number five, the Rotterdammers are two points behind the Arnhemmers.

The fourth place means a ticket for the preliminary round of the Conference League.

The number five must participate in the play-offs.

Attorney's team will visit the last week at ADO next week.

Berghuis has been suspended for that match anyway, but probably also for the home game a week later with Ajax.

He will receive a settlement proposal from the prosecutor for professional football of the KNVB on Monday.
