It was at the end of the first period against Örebro that Melart was awarded a match penalty for the main tackle.
Växjöbacken chased after Örebro's Rodrigo Abols and hit him with the shoulder in the head with a tackle from the side.
Melart was reported to SHL's disciplinary committee, which has now announced its decision: Melart will be suspended in Växjö's five upcoming matches.
The Disciplinary Board points to five key factors that form the basis for the decision:
· The tackle hit the opponent's head and has an upward force.
· The tackle entails a risk of injury
· It is a matter of recidivism in the same type of offense.
For Melart, the hockey season may now be over. It is 1-1 in the semifinal series against Örebro and he will be suspended for the rest of the semifinal. Should Växjö go to the final, he will miss the opening matches.
