Ryan Giggs
was set aside as Wales coach on Friday, after being formally accused of mistreating his ex-girlfriend and attacking another woman when he was arrested in November 2020 at a home in Worsley, Salford.
The former Manchester United, 47, will be tried next Wednesday, April 28, for allegedly causing physical damage to
Kate Greville
.
The coach will also defend himself against the accusation of having attacked another woman during the same incident.
It also faces an additional charge for
alleged coercive and controlling behavior
between December 2017 and November 2020.
"I have full respect for the legal process and understand the seriousness of the allegations.
I am going to plead not guilty in court and hope to clear my name,
" Giggs said in a statement.
The Football Federation of Wales, for its part, reported that "the decision of the Prosecutor's Office to file charges against Ryan Giggs, coach of the men's national team, has been recorded, after which it has decided to remove him from the bench.
