Lieke Wevers and Naomi Visser performed excellently on Friday in the all-around final at the European Gymnastics Championships in Basel.

The Dutch women finished eighth and ninth respectively.

The only fifteen-year-old Viktoria Listunova from Russia became European champion for the first time.

The 29-year-old Wevers came after a tour along the floor, beam, bridge and jumped to a total of 52,265.

The ten years younger Visser was just behind that: 52,199.

Both Dutch women were in the all-around final of a European Championship for the first time.

Wevers qualified in qualifying on Wednesday with a score of 52.833 in thirteenth place for the final battle.

Visser (49,932) finished outside the required top 24 (31st place), but after a cancellation she was allowed to participate in the final as the first reserve.

The Papendrecht player took full advantage of that opportunity and did almost two points better on Friday than in qualifying.

Two years ago, Eythora Thorsdottir was the best Dutch at the all-around European Championships in the Polish city of Szczecin with eleventh place.

She is now missing due to an injury.
