Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who turns 40 next October, extended his contract for another season with AC Milan on Thursday.

Returning to Milan in January 2020, in a club where he had already played between 2010 and 2012, the Z has largely contributed to the recovery of the Rossoneri, currently second in the Italian championship.

"The Swedish champion will wear the Rossonero jersey next season as well," the club said in a statement.

Ibrahimovic is the Lombard club's top scorer this season.

In February he passed the 500 goal mark under the various club tunics he has worn (Malmö, Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona, Milan, Paris SG, Manchester United, Los Angeles Galaxy).

Ibra, surprise star of the next Euro

The form regained with Milan, after a few more anonymous seasons since his departure from PSG in 2016, also allowed Ibra to find the Swedish team in March, nearly five years after his farewell and twenty years after his first selection.

Barring injury, he should be one of the stars of the Euro in a month and a half.

His return to Milan, in a role of tutor of a young team, has also allowed him to soften a little his image of a grumpy player with an oversized ego.

Less rough, he was thus the star in March of the Sanremo Song Festival, a true cathodic high mass for Italians, and was enlisted in Lombardy to promote the wearing of the mask against the coronavirus.
