The German football league (DFL) announced Thursday the establishment for the last two days of the championship of "training camps in quarantine" which will concern all clubs of the first and second divisions.

This decision was taken to avoid any postponement of the match due to potential infections of the teams with Covid-19 and to ensure that the championship ends well on schedule, especially before the start of the Euro (11 June-July 11).

Before this bubble-wrap within these "training camps", players and coaches will first have to respect a "quasi-quarantine" from May 3, which, according to the DFL, will serve to "reduce contacts and further minimize the risk of infection ”.

During this period, the people concerned will have to remain "exclusively in the domestic environment or on the training ground or in the stadium", warns the league.

The players will therefore only be able to live at home or go to the stadium to train or play.

Hertha Berlin already quarantined

Then, from May 12 and for at least 10 days, the 36 professional clubs will have to isolate all their staff within a bubble whose outings will be limited to the maximum until the end of the last two days.

The Bundesliga is supposed to end on Sunday, May 22.

Concretely, they will stay either within the sports grounds of the club or in a nearby hotel, a little as if it were a long period when the team plays away.

This drastic measure had been considered for a time by the German league to avoid any possible postponement of matches if one or more teams were to be infected when the schedule is already very tight.

Faced with the refusal of many clubs, the DFL had put away its project.

But this has returned to the fore after Hertha Berlin became the first Bundesliga club last Thursday to be fully quarantined after the appearance of several positive cases in the workforce.

Isolated for 14 days in total, the team fighting for maintenance (16th and jump-off) has already had to postpone two meetings.

Several second division clubs are also currently subject to complete isolation.
