At the beginning of 2020, the Group B match of the Tokyo Olympic Women's Football Qualifier originally scheduled to be held in Wuhan was moved to Sydney, Australia due to the epidemic.

The Chinese women's football team was required to be isolated for one week after entering Australia at the end of January. The team can only move on two floors of the hotel and cannot train outdoors for 7 days.

Faced with difficult conditions, the women's football girls insisted on training in the narrow aisles and stairwells of the hotel, and obtained qualifications for the Olympic preliminaries play-offs.

Women's football coach Jia Xiuquan encouraged the women's football team: "The ball still has to be kicked, and the ball has to be won!"

On April 8th and 13th, 2021, the Chinese women's football team eliminated the South Korean team 4:3 in the two rounds of the play-offs and got tickets to the Tokyo Olympics.
