The International Ski Federation voted down the proposal to allow ski flying, longer slopes than traditional ski jumping, for ladies until next season.
- It is normal that they react like that, it is a dream for some of the jumpers to ski, says Fi's competition manager Sandro Pertile to SVT Sport.
Why are the ladies not allowed to compete in ski flying next season?
- It is better to wait a couple of years so that the girls feel more comfortable on large slopes.
For ski slopes is another dimension, they are extremely challenging.
We want to take proper steps in the right direction.
How is the decision to vote no to the change justified?
- All nations - except Norway that presented the proposal - that have jumpers who are among the top 30, voted no.
They protect their athletes and feel it is too early.
They think we need more time before ladies start skiing.
If we want to arrange a World Cup competition, at least 30 athletes are required, and the goal is for 30 girls to be able to jump properly in safe conditions.
We have good girls but we have to be honest, right now we are not reaching the required levels.
- Sooner or later it will happen.
If we are to be realistic, it can become a reality in three to five years.
Swedish incomprehensible
Swedish ski jumper Astrid Norstedt does not understand Fi's decision.
- It has been said that the girls are not good enough.
Ladies' ski jumping is a new sport, but the ladies are at such a good level that there is no reason not to allow us to jump ski flying, she tells SVT Sport.
