Coach Hansi Flick wants to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

This was announced by the coach of the German record champions on Saturday after the 3: 2 (3: 1) in the Bundesliga at VfL Wolfsburg.

"I told the club that I would like to terminate the contract at the end of the season," Flick told NDR.

“I only expressed a wish.

Because I also know that I still have a contract.

It was important to me that the team found out about this from me, because there was already a lot going on in the hallway, ”said Flick at the press conference.

Future unclear

The 56-year-old has a contract with FC Bayern until June 30, 2023. He is considered a promising candidate to succeed Joachim Löw as national coach.

The future is "not at all clear," said Flick on Saturday on Sky.

There has not yet been a conversation about the German national team.

"Of course the DFB is an option that every coach has to consider," said Flick.

After the end of the Champions League last Tuesday in Paris, there were already signs that Flick wants to leave Bayern.

In the interview with Sky after the 1-0 win against PSG, he looked as if he had already finished with Munich.

He spoke for the first time in this phase of the season from the German Football Association (DFB), in which he is considered the top candidate for the successor to Joachim Löw for the period after the EM in the summer.

"Where is it going, how will it continue - I always worry about that," says Flick: "Because for me, success is a constant process.

For me there is always the situation to evaluate everything, to face new challenges or to think about how to approach it.

Of course, I have my own ideas. ”Bayern had signaled again and again that they didn't really want to let Flick go.

“It was important to me that the team found out about that from me.

I am enthusiastic about this team and this team.

Thanks and compliments to the club for giving me the opportunity to train such a team, ”said Flick.

Despite the 1-0 win in the second leg, Bayern were eliminated from the Champions League against PSG.

About the reasons for his wish to move, he said: “These are things that I have discussed internally with the club.” There had been repeated differences this season, especially with sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.
