It was in the lead 3-0 with eight minutes left of the third period that Växjö's forward star, Brendan Gaunce, suffered a concussion.

In a failed clearance in boxplay where the puck stopped Färjestad's Victor Ejdsell, Gaunce later in the sequence chose to hit his club between the legs of the FBK captain.

Suspension and fine

Ejdsell grinned badly after the move from Gaunce who had to leave the ice with a match penalty.

On Wednesday morning, the news first came from the SHL that the Canadian had been reported to the disciplinary committee.

And now the 27-year-old has received his sentence: There will be a two-match suspension and a fine of SEK 6,250.

This means that Gaunce will miss tonight's match against Färjestad and another playoff match.

Växjö leads the quarter-final series against Färjestad with 3-0 in matches.

If you win the fourth match between the teams later on Wednesday night, the Smålanders are on to the semifinals in the SM playoffs while FBK can take a holiday.
