Luuk de Jong booked a hard-fought victory in La Liga with Sevilla on Monday evening.

The team of trainer Julen Lopetegui won in a spectacle with 3-4 from mid-engine RC Celta and can still dream of the national title.

Sevilla took the lead in Vigo after seven minutes by a hard header from defender Jules Koundé, but the goalscorer was also responsible for the equalizing goal not much later.

He caused a penalty kick, which was impeccably shot by Iago Aspas.

Two minutes later, the top scorer of Celta was again accurate after a razor-sharp counter that he finished coolly.

A deflected shot by Fernando led to the 2-2 in the 35th minute, but Brais Méndez gave Celta the lead again before half-time with a beautiful lob from close range.

After that spectacular first half with five goals, Ivan Rakitic contributed fifteen minutes after the break by shooting from close to 3-3, after which the goal production for both teams paused.

De Jong was allowed to make an appearance in the 63rd minute, but saw more than ten minutes later that his teammate Papu Gómez made the 3-4.

The Argentinian benefited from poor defense by Joseph Aidoo and passed goalkeeper Ivan Villar.

Sevilla can hardly miss a place in the first four and with that a Champions League ticket - the lead on number five Real Sociedad is fourteen points - and is even an outsider for the championship.

The number four gap on leader Atlético Madrid is 'only' six points.

Seville can still dream of the national title because of the spectacular victory over Celta.

Leverkusen sees CL ticket further disappear from view

In the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen did bad business in the battle for a ticket to the Champions League.

The 'Werkself' came to visit TSG 1899 Hoffenheim no further than a goalless draw.

At Leverkusen, Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong made his appearance in the 71st minute, while Daley Sinkgraven remained on the bench for ninety minutes.

It was the second game after the dismissal of trainer Peter Bosz, who had to leave at the end of March after the 3-0 defeat against Hertha BSC.

Bayer Leverkusen occupies sixth place with 44 points and must provide a small miracle to secure participation in the Champions League.

The gap with number four Eintracht Frankfurt is nine points.

Also in the Premier League was not scored on Monday evening.

Everton played a draw at Brighton & Hove Albion without hits and remained without a win for the fourth league game in a row.

Joël Veltman participated the entire match at Brighton.

Everton is currently eighth with 48 points.

That is seven less than number four West Ham United and only the top four teams qualify for the Champions League.
