Montecarlo "Nadal arrives physically and mentally well, with only one tournament played and little wear and tear"
Daniil Medvedev
, number two in the world, tested positive for covid-19 in a control he underwent this Monday hours after having shared training with
Rafa Nadal
in Monte Carlo.
While the Russian will be out for the tournament, the Mallorcan will have to undergo further tests.
"It is a great disappointment," Medvedev said when announcing his retirement.
"I will focus now on recovering and I am looking forward to getting back on the track healthy as soon as possible."
Medvedev has been quarantined and his health is monitored by the tournament and ATP circuit doctors.
The 25-year-old Muscovite was the second seed of the tournament, behind Serbian
Novak Djokovic
.
He was exempt from the first round and shared the half of the table in which Nadal, third favorite and winner of the Principality tournament eleven times.
