It is the first time this year that Henrik Stenson passes the qualifying limit.

The 45-year-old has had a hard time in recent months and missed the "cut" in six straight competitions.

His performance so far at classic Augusta can be seen as a big step forward for the British Open winner from 2016.

He started the second round with four par, before missing the inning on the fifth hole which led to the first bogey of the day.

On the ninth hole, the Swede succeeded with a birdie, but followed it up with another bogey on the hole after.

Seven strokes up to the leader

When today's third bogey came on the twelfth hole, it looked like it could be a gloomy day for Stenson - but he managed to turn the ship around.

The failure was followed by two straight birdies.

Then it was three pairs before he finished strong with another birdie on the 18th hole.

Stenson went the second round on 71 strokes, one stroke below par, and is on par in total.

It separates seven strokes up to leading Justin Rose.

The Swede is currently in a shared 23rd place.

A total of 88 players are in the Masters, the top 50 will continue to play after two rounds.
