The ovation that the Real Madrid players gave to

Gaby Deck

in Istanbul now takes on a double meaning.

It was a recognition of the great work he did against Fenerbahce on a momentous night and also a farewell.

The Argentine forward, as the Two Against One program announced, leaves Madrid in the middle of the season to go to the NBA.

According to Sportando, he will sign a three-year contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The moment, the most surprising of the case, has an explanation.

As explained by specialist

Larry Coon

Except for minimum wage contracts or temporary 10-day contracts, NBA salaries are not prorated: even if you sign near the end of the season, you will get paid for the full year.

Doing so benefits both parties: Gaby Deck begins to collect now and the Oklahoma City Thunder divide the salary they had planned to give him for one more season ... also using money that they were going to lose as well.

The NBA doesn't just have a salary ceiling, a maximum (albeit very flexible) that teams can spend on their rosters.

They also have a floor, a minimum that everyone is obliged to spend to respect the distribution of income between the league and the players.

That floor is 90% of the salary limit and, according to journalist

Bobby Marks

, the Thunder are about 4 million below that bar.

If they did not invest them in any transfer, they had to distribute them among the entire squad.

Instead, the Thunder have taken advantage of that small margin to get ahead of the rest of the NBA for a player who this summer was going to be highly sought after.

The exact numbers of the contract that Gaby Deck will sign are not yet known, but Oklahoma has around six million available from the salary exception (one of the tools with which teams can sign when they are below that floor or above the salary limit).

It is a common practice of the Thunder, who are taking advantage of the end of the season to close contracts or new signings.

Last year they did it with

Luguetz Dort

, a few weeks ago with

Moses Brown

and now with Gaby Deck.
