Riccardo Calafiori can understand the ball boy who threw a ball hard towards his face in the final phase of Ajax-AS Roma on Thursday.

Roma talent had irritated the boy down the line by stalling for time.

The ball boy had already given Calafiori a ball, but the Italian threw that ball away to gain time.

Then, out of anger, he got a second ball thrown hard against him by the boy.

Calafiori got yellow by referee Sergey Karasev for delayed time.

"At that moment a lot of things went through my mind. Fortunately I was able to control myself", said the only eighteen-year-old Calafiori after the match in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Roma won 1-2 after trailing 1-0.

"But to be honest, I would also be annoyed if I saw that an opponent's player was stretching time at such a time. I have no respect for what that ball boy did, but I understand him."

Time wasting in the Johan Cruijff Arena is punished twice.

'The missed penalty gave us a boost'

Roma was 1-0 behind during the quarter-final match of the Europa League before halftime due to a hit by Davy Klaassen.

After the break Lorenzo Pellegrini (he took advantage of a blunder from Ajax keeper Kjell Scherpen) and Roger Ibañez ensured an important victory.

The young Calafiori had to come in after 28 minutes.

"That was not easy, but my teammates helped me well. In the second half it went better. The missed penalty (by Dusan Tadic, ed.) Gave us a boost. We have proven that we have a strong team."

The return between Roma and Ajax is next Thursday in Stadio Olimpico.

The match starts at 9 p.m. and Ajax has to score twice to continue.
