It was at the European Swimming Championships 2018 in Glasgow that the event occurred.

In the semifinals of the 100 meter freestyle, the Dane Pernille Blume opened at a time that was faster than the future gold medalist Sarah Sjöström's championship record.

But she did not turn around and after the first 50 meters of the race the speed disappeared, and Blume finished sixth and knocked out.

It resulted in death threats that Pernille Blume now chooses to tell about.

- I chose to swim in a different way than I normally do.

For that, I would also be expelled from Denmark and immediately leave the sports world, says Pernille Blume to DR.

The comments and death threats took a heavy toll on the 26-year-old.

- I lay awake with anxiety all night after that semifinal. I was so surprised by all the disgusting comments.
