Bayern Munich were better than PSG but have lost and are on the verge of losing their European crown.
This is the general tone in the German press, after the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League won Wednesday evening by Paris at the Allianz Arena.
For
Kicker
, the benchmark football magazine, "Mbappé made the difference: a superior Bayern gave in to PSG".
And the newspaper notes: "Despite an overwhelming superiority in number of chances and shots on goal, Bayern lost 3-2 [...] and must now be worried about the rest of their career in the League of champions.
"
"On the verge of elimination"
“With their backs to the wall,” proclaims
Spiegel
: “Despite one of their best performances of the season, Bayern is on the verge of elimination in the premier competition.
Concerns for the return: the newly injured [Goretzka and Süle] and the pure world class of the opposing attackers ”.
Same tone for
Focus online
: "The Munich were better than PSG: this defeat is a joke [...] but Bayern failed because of their atypical inability to convert their chances into goals, and their well-known defensive weaknesses ".
"In front, he lacked the Munich efficiency, behind the discipline", deplores for its part the
FAZ
of Frankfurt, more critical, which prefers however to headline on "The unshakeable optimism of FC Bayern", quoting the coach Hansi Flick and players who, just after the match, assured that they still had all their chances in Paris.
The
Munich
daily
Abendzeitung
also notes that Bayern was satisfied with their performance on Wednesday night: "The players and the coach want to go to Paris with the same game plan".
Hansi Flick's first hot reaction was to congratulate his team on “the state of mind and the way”.
Neuer exhausted, Kimmich greeted
"A whole series of stars have played below their level against PSG", yet tackles the

.
In the scores given to the players, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is slaughtered by all the media because of his blunder on the first goal.
But the central defense, Süle [out with an injury] and Boateng, also dropped sharply, as did Leroy Sané in attack.
The best marks unanimously go to Joshua Kimmich, whom he shares, on some media, with Thomas Müller.
