In a three-line press release, Real Madrid announced the bad news: a test taken this Tuesday morning revealed that Raphaël Varane was positive for the coronavirus.

Obviously, the French international defender will miss the shock against Liverpool, this Tuesday evening in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League.

But he will also miss Saturday's clasico in La Liga, still at home, while second-placed Barça are only two points ahead of Real in a three-way title fight currently being waged by Atlético Madrid.

If he could, Zinedine Zidane would undoubtedly tear his hair out, since he finds himself orphaned by his hinge, Captain Sergio Ramos being injured in the calf.

It is a Nacho-Militao association which could therefore be aligned, against the Reds to begin with.
