Last year was tough for Hanna Bennison who first suffered a stress fracture in the tibia and then became ill in covid-19.

- It was my first big injury so it was tough and hard for me because it was new.

When I came back I got corona, so it was a tough period, says Hanna Bennison to SVT Sport.

But then it turned for the 18-year-old midfielder.

"Feels completely unreal"

In February, she was part of the national team squad that played matches against Austria and Malta and last month she was named the world's greatest talent, among players born in January 2002 or later, by the football site Goal.

- It feels completely unreal to receive such an award.

It's great fun and shows that what you have worked for pays off.

The national team gathered in Stockholm yesterday before the international matches against the USA and Poland.

The collection is the penultimate before the Olympics in Tokyo, which begins in July.

Only 18 players in the Olympic squad

Bennison hopes to show his qualities and strengthen his shares in the hunt for a place in the only 18-player Olympic squad.

- It is a big goal I have, to get to the Olympics and that squad.

Then there is very tough competition but I will work hard to try to get involved.

SVT broadcasts the match against the USA, April 10, and the match against Poland, April 13.
