The World Men's Curling Championships, which are competing for the next year's Beijing Olympics, kicked off in Canada on the 2nd, and Japan beat Germany 8-5 in the first match of the qualifying league.

The curling world championship will be held for the first time in two years because last year's tournament was canceled due to the influence of the new coronavirus.



In addition to Japan's representative Hokkaido Consadole, a total of 14 teams from Europe and North America have participated in the tournament held in Calgary, Canada.



In the first match of the qualifying league held on the 2nd, Japan, which ranked 6th in the world, played against Germany, which ranked 12th in the world.



In the match, Japan took the initiative by scoring 4 points at a stroke due to the mistake of the opponent in the 1st end, but by the 6th end it was close to 5-4, 1 point difference.



From here, Japan scored two points in the 7th end to widen the lead, and in the 8th end, skipping Yuta Matsumura placed a guard in a position to protect the Japanese stone closest to the center of the circle, and at this end I succeeded in one point of steel.



Then, at the end of the 9th end, Germany admitted to losing, so Japan decorated the first match with a white star 8-5.



In the second match that followed, Japan played against Canada, the world's second-largest player, and lost 5-8, scoring a total of 1 win and 1 loss in the qualifying league.



The Curling Men's World Championship will be a round-robin qualifying league with 14 teams, with the top 6 teams qualifying for next year's Beijing Olympics.
