The Chichibu Memorial Sports Museum / Library, which plays a central role in collecting and preserving materials related to sports such as the Olympics and Paralympics, has set a collection policy for the first time. We have decided to proceed with collection according to the theme.

The Chichibu Memorial Sports Museum / Library collects and preserves Japanese sports materials as the only dedicated facility, but since there was no clear policy on collecting materials so far, a working group was set up to study it. We have formulated the first policy.

In the policy, the themes of collection are

▽ "sports events" that remain in the history of

Japanese sports

,

▽ "competitions" that show the tradition and development of Japanese sports,

▽ "individuals" that have achieved outstanding results, and

▽ "digital information". The four are listed,

and the target is materials that are particularly likely to be dissipated and need to be preserved as national facilities.

Specific examples of the materials to be collected include

▽ actual medals and uniforms used in the

competition

,

record materials related to the invitation and management of the

competition, and ▽ photographs and videos of competitions and athletes.

On the other hand, seven years ago, the former National Stadium was relocated to a temporary building, and there are issues such as insufficient storage space and collection interruptions. The target is to be narrowed down.

The museum plans to resume collection from this month and focus on collecting materials for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics in the summer. Director Hiroyuki Kawamura said, "In the wake of this policy formulation, we will collaborate with museums nationwide to collect and research. I would like to proceed and efficiently collect valuable materials in the face of restrictions. "
