The 1: 2 against North Macedonia was more than an industrial accident.

It was yet again proof that a lot has to change in and around the national team.

Urgent.

This embarrassing defeat showed that the team is nowhere near as far as hoped.

And that Joachim Löw's withdrawal is right and important.

He has announced that he will stop as national coach after the European Championship.

It is time.

Löw's time

must be

over by

summer at the latest

.

He did a lot for German football.

It is not excessive: it shaped an era.

Löw has shaped and promoted several generations of national players.

But every era ends, sad as it may be.

Löw's bitter record from the past few years is marked by three historical debacles.

The bitter setbacks: the first from a German team in a World Cup preliminary round in Russia 2018. The 0: 6 against Spain at the end of last year, the highest defeat since 1931. And now the disgrace against the number 65 in the world rankings.

Löw's tactical change surprised

The embarrassment of Duisburg has several reasons, for some of which Löw cannot do anything.

After many games in recent weeks, many professionals are quite tired, midfield boss Toni Kroos was missing a key player injured, and defender Niklas Süle was also absent.

And striker Timo Werner missed a scoring opportunity that he rarely leaves.

But Löw's tactical change can be discussed.

Was it really necessary to change the defense?

Shouldn't the team have just continued to play defensively?

Löw called in a lot against North Macedonia.

Vain.

The disgrace against was only the third defeat of the national team in the 97th World Cup qualifier since 1934

The 3-0 win against Iceland was the best of the three World Cup qualifiers in March, after which it got weaker.

This defeat against North Macedonia remains for the next few months.

That is bitter, Loew only has two test games with the team before the first European Championship game against France on June 15.

The mood of optimism that emerged recently is gone for the time being, Löw is viewed very critically by many experts and fans.

And before June there is no way for him or the German selection to make a better impression.

His successor has to be Hans-Dieter "Hansi" Flick.

The Bayern coach would be the ideal successor to Löw.

He knows the German Football Association (DFB) and its difficult structure with many egos, but four years after leaving the DFB, he has gained enough distance and different experiences at the same time.

The DFB must do everything to get it.

Valid contract with Bavaria or not.

Someone from Löw's current staff does not seem like the right choice.

His assistant, Marcus Sorg, is undoubtedly competent and experienced, but a new beginning must be clearly recognizable as a new beginning, especially in terms of personnel.

It takes a national coach who was not involved in the debacles mentioned.

Rangnick and Bierhoff are difficult to imagine

The newcomer must exude authority and success.

This is another reason why Flick is better suited than U21 national coach Stefan Kuntz.

In the national team there are many world stars who have played or continue to play under coaches like Pep Guardiola.

You have to follow the trainer.

There must be no interim solution.

The new national coach has to prepare the team for the 2022 Winter World Cup in Qatar and for the 2024 European Championship at home.

He should develop the team, promote young players.

Ralf Rangnick has everything for the job.

But he

and

Oliver Bierhoff as makers at the DFB?

Difficult to imagine.

FC Bayern could find themselves in a very unfamiliar situation in the summer.

He usually signs players and coaches from other clubs.

His coaches do not leave voluntarily, at most they are fired.

Flick could pray for the release in the summer of Munich.

Club boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently said in an exclusive interview with WELT AM SONNTAG that one should stick to what was contractually agreed, he said that to Flick "unequivocally".

Flick's contract with the German record champions is valid until June 30, 2023.

After the defeat against North Macedonia, the decision of the DFB in the search for a successor for Löw is expected with even more excitement.

The fact that Flick asks his club for the release in the summer is possible because of his dispute with sports director Hasan Salihamidzic - the last truce should not be overrated and has not yet been subjected to a stress test.

FC Bayern would do German football a big favor if he let Flick go.
