A combination lottery for the qualifying league was held in which the participating teams were divided into two groups in the handball of the Tokyo Olympics, and the men's representative from Japan became the same group as the world championship champion Denmark and the runner-up Sweden.

The Japanese national handball team has been decided to participate in the Tokyo tournament for both men and women, and it will be the first time in 33 years for boys since the 1988 Seoul tournament and 45 years for girls since the 1976 Montreal tournament.

On the 1st, the International Handball Federation held a combination lottery to divide 12 men's and women's teams participating in the Tokyo Olympics in Switzerland into two groups in the qualifying league.

As a result, the men's Japan national team is now in the same group as Denmark, which won the World Championship in January, Sweden, which is the runner-up, Egypt, Portugal, and Bahrain.

In addition to the Netherlands, who won the world championship, the women's Japan national team will compete in the qualifying league in the same group as Norway, which was 4th, Montenegro, which was 5th, and South Korea and Angola.

The handball qualifying league is a round-robin match with 6 teams, with the top 4 teams advancing to the quarterfinals.

In Japan, the boys won two world championships in January and finished 19th overall, and the girls won the world championship held in Kumamoto in December in 10th place over the world's fifth-ranked powerhouse Romania. It's finished.

Both are further strengthening for the Tokyo Games, and at the Olympic Games, we aim to break through the qualifying league first.
