The Spanish tennis player

Roberto Bautista

qualified this Tuesday for the

quarterfinals of the Miami Masters 1,000

, the first of the season, after saving a match point against the American

John Isner

and being able to beat him in three sets (6-3, 4-6 and 7-6 (7)) after almost two and a half hours of play.

The Spaniard, who won the first set very easily, suffered in the second set when Isner began to find sensations on the Miami fast track.

The North Carolina 'giant' tied the duel by asserting himself with his powerful serve.

Bautista had to play against Isner and also

against an amateur who dedicated himself to reprimand him,

making him lose his nerves for a moment.

"Come here! Come here!", Called the Spaniard from the track.

"Shut the fuck up now and let me play tennis, shit! Asshole!", He demanded.

In spite of everything, the Spanish tennis player knew how to redirect in time and resolved the third set in the '

tie-break

' after saving a match ball.

The

world number 12

, second best Spaniard in the ATP ranking after Rafa Nadal, finished 9-7 to be among the eight best in South Florida for the second time in his career.

His previous occasion was in 2019 and he fell, curiously, at the hands of Isner after finishing Novak Djokovic a previous round.

"These

tough and mentally demanding games

give a lot of confidence, because they make you go through moments of great tension. That improves you as a player, makes you better handle the pressure in the following rounds," said Bautista after the victory.

His rival in the quarterfinals will be Russian

Daniil Medvedev

, who defeated American

Frances Tiafoe

in two comfortable sets (6-4 and 6-3).

The Spaniard has faced Medvedev twice, both with victory, in 2017 and 2020 on hard court.
