The former doctor Eufemiano Fuentes, central figure in the doping case "Puerto" in cycling in 2006, implied Sunday in an interview with the television channel Sexta, to have worked in an informal way or to have been approached by some major football clubs in Spain.

Confronted with a document published by the daily

El Pais

reporting an alleged occult accounting at Real Sociedad where suspicious payments and anotations appeared on his part, Dr. Fuentes defended himself in an ambiguous manner.

The revelations of the former president of Sociedad

“I see this document and I recognize that this letter is mine,” he said.

I was not the doctor for Real Sociedad but (looking at this document) one can think that I advised them in one way or another ”.

In 2013, the former president of Real Sociedad (from January to December 2008), Inaki Badiola, had affirmed in an interview with the newspaper

AS

that his predecessors had a network of purchase of doping products of which “Eufemiano Fuentes could well to be the supplier ”.

The management of Real Sociedad had rejected these accusations, as the president of the club between 2001 and 2005, José Luis Astiazaran.

Ambiguity regarding Real Madrid?

Dr Fuentes worked quite officially for the clubs of the Union Deportiva de Las Palmas, Universidad de Las Palmas and Elche, but “unofficially I was sometimes hired or solicited (by teams), because there was no had no contracts, to advise their technicians, their doctors on the control, the recovery and the follow-up of their players ”.

Fuentes also clarified that he had been approached by "Champions League level" teams, but had not worked with any of them.

The doctor, 66 years old today, said again that he had had some contact with FC Barcelona but without follow-up.

On the other hand, he remained more ambiguous concerning Real Madrid.

"I will not answer this question (concerning his possible collaboration with Real), but that does not mean that it was the case, I had already had to testify in a trial on this question and I had said no , so (today) I'm telling you no, ”he replied to La Sexta journalist Jordi Evole.

Eufemiano Fuentes was referring to the trial after which the French newspaper Le Monde was ordered in 2014 to compensate Real Madrid 300,000 euros and Barcelona 15,000 euros for having insinuated in 2006 that the two teams had used the services of Fuentes.
