This week's LPGA Tour competition in Carlsbad, California, is also a genre rehearsal for ANA Inspiration, this year's first golf major to be decided next week.

And judging by the game of the third round, Madelene Sagström seems to have found the form at the right moment.

After initial rounds of 72 and 74 strokes, it was by a fairly narrow margin that Sagström passed the qualifying limit, and when Saturday's game then started with a double bogey, there was nothing to suggest that the weekend would be particularly fun.

But Sagström wanted something else.

Shared fifth place

She made birdies in second and third.

Then five straight birdies on holes five to nine - and the big game continued even during the rest of the round.

28-year-old Sagström did bogey on hole fourteen, but also four more birdies and ended the day at 64 strokes despite the nightmare start.

That was enough to climb 45 places and the Swede is in a shared fifth place before the final round, six strokes below par.

Up to the leading South Korean Inbee Park, there are six more strokes, as Park is in a superior lead of twelve under par.

Three players are in a split second place, one stroke ahead of Sagström.

It is slower for the other Swedes in the competition.

Anna Nordqvist went the third round of 70 strokes, two under par, and is in a shared 22nd place before the final round.

Pernilla Lindberg is the last of those who advanced to the third round, with a total of eight over par.
