Shawky Gharib: Salah's participation in the Olympics is a tripartite decision

The coach of the Egyptian Olympic Football Team, Shawky Gharib, confirmed yesterday that "the participation of English Liverpool star Mohamed Salah in the Tokyo Olympics next summer is a tripartite decision."

Gharib said in a telephone interview with (Agence France-Presse): "The joining of Mohamed Salah is a technical decision from me personally, then the administrator from Liverpool FC and its German coach, Jürgen Klopp, and then as a result of the player himself’s desire to participate with us in the Olympics."

He added, "Salah's joining the team in the Olympiad is a move by the state, represented by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Football Association and the technical staff, in search of an Olympic medal that will be the first in the history of Egyptian football's participation in the Olympiad."

And about whether there is communication between the coach and the player, Gharib said, "I announced my desire and wish for Salah to be with us in the Olympics, and the player did not announce his refusal, which means that he has the desire to participate with us."

"Salah's name as one of the three best players in the world will transfer the Pharaohs to another place in the Olympics," he said, noting that "his presence will make a big difference with us," citing the role of Brazilian Neymar de Silva, star of Paris Saint-Germain, in leading his country to win the gold in the Rio Olympics.
