As recently as January, 19-year-old Daniel Guerini signed a new three-year contract with Lazio.
On Wednesday night, Guerini died after a car accident in Rome after a head-on collision with another car.
Guerini was raised in Lazio's organization, but has also been loaned to the youth teams in Turin, Fiorentina and Spal.
He has also represented the Italian national teams.
"We are shocked and in pain by what happened," Lazio wrote on social media.
The Italian police have launched an investigation into what may have caused the crash.
