For the first time in the country's history ... Pakistanis are participating in a weightlifting championship

A number of women in Pakistan are preparing to compete in the Sindh bodybuilding championship for the first time in their lives in a country that did not favor women participating in sporting events.

Women will be allowed to participate for the first time in history at the event, which will be held this year in Karachi.

Women's participation in the tournament is seen as a form of positive social change, especially as it comes within the framework of a sport monopolized by men in several countries around the world.

Tania Malik, a champion in bodybuilding, says her preparation for the tournament was delayed due to the lockdown imposed to limit the spread of the new Corona virus.

"When people look at us while we're lifting weights, they think it is a male-dominated sport, but that's wrong. I'm a good weightlifter, thank God," she adds.

The Pakistani women faced a difficult road and great challenges in order to be allowed to participate in the tournament.

"We have had a lot of trouble," says weightlifter Umbrian Jawed, "It is really a difficult time especially for women. But if women don't have the courage they cannot achieve their goals. Women have to go out and prove themselves."
