The Norwegian players stood guard during the national anthems before the match wearing white jerseys with messages of respect and human rights as a pass to Fifa.

The players came on the field with the message "RESPECT - on and off the pitch" and the national team captain Ståle Solbakken had the same message on his shirt when he was interviewed on Norwegian television before the match.

The debate about the World Cup in Qatar has been extensive in Norway, where several votes have been raised for the national team to boycott the championship completely.

Before the match against Gibraltar, team captain Martin Ødegaard said that national team captain Ståle Solbakken had taken the initiative for the marking and invited experts who would tell the player squad about the situation in the Arab country.

- The player group thought it was a good idea.

Everyone agrees that what is happening and has happened in Qatar is not good, and for us it is important to show that we care and try to influence, said Ødegaard.

The Swedish national team is not planning any selection before the World Cup qualifier against Georgia in Solna on Thursday.

- Somewhere it is that we devote ourselves to the sporting part.

Then sports and politics belong together.

We are part of society in different ways.

If we can contribute, we will do it and I have expressed myself quite clearly about what I think of Qatar, says Janne Andersson.

- I think it is difficult to stop a World Cup in Qatar.

We must accept it and continue, through the union, to illuminate and influence, he says.
