Romano Floriani Mussolini, great-grandson of the Italian dictator, announced on Tuesday that he had signed his first professional contract with Lazio, a club frequently grappling with groups of “ultra” fascist or neo-Nazi supporters.

On Instagram, the 18-year-old defender posted a photo showing him signing a contract until 2024 alongside Mauro Bianchessi, youth manager for Roman training.

"I'm very happy to have signed my first professional contract with SS Lazio, and to spend another three years in this jersey," he wrote on his page, for which he is only registered under the name of his father, Mauro Floriani.

Some Ultras of the club regularly pinned for racist acts

Coming from the Lazio training center, Romano Floriani Mussolini is the son of Alessandra Mussolini, granddaughter of Duce, Benito Mussolini (1883-1945) who created in 1919 the first fascist militias before taking power from 1924 To get to the Olympic stadium in Rome, where Lazio, Roma and the national team play, supporters walk past a massive obelisk still proclaiming “Mussolini Dux” (Mussolini the Duce).

Celtic crosses, monkey cries, fascist greetings and even hijacked photos of Anne Frank, in October 2017: the "Ultras" of Lazio Rome, classified to the extreme right, are regularly pinned for racist or anti-Semitic acts.

Among the ultras groups of Lazio, which today occupy the Curva Nord (North bend) of the Olympic Stadium in Rome, the best known are the “Irriducibili”, a movement created in 1987.

The club recently got tough.

In January 2020, he asked 16 supporters who had made fascist salutes during the Europa League match against Rennes to participate in the payment of the fine imposed by UEFA.
