Romano Floriani Mussolini, great-grandson of the Italian dictator, announced that he had signed his first professional contract with Lazio, a club frequently linked to ultra-fascist or neo-Nazi ideological groups.

The 18-year-old defender published on his Instagram account a photo in which he appears signing the contract (until 2024) with

Mauro Bianchessi

, head of the lower categories of the Roman club.

"I am very happy to have signed my first professional contract with SS Lazio and to wear this shirt for another three years," he wrote in his account, in which he is registered with the name of his father, Mauro Floriani.

Mussolini's link with Lazio dates back to 2016, when the biancoceleste club signed him from the Roma youth academy.

Since then, after a loan at Vigor Perconti, he has been climbing the rungs until reaching Primavera as a right-back.

Now he signs his first contract as a professional.

Trained in Lazio, Romano Floriani Mussolini is the third son of Alessandra Mussolini, former deputy in the European Parliament for Forza Italia and granddaughter of the 'Duce', Benito Mussolini (1883-1945), who created in 1919 the first fascist militias.

To get to the Olympic Stadium, where Lazio, Roma and the Italian national team play, fans pass by an obelisk dedicated to 'Mussolini Dux' (Mussolini the Duce).

Linked to the extreme right, the Lazio ultras are frequently accused of racist or anti-Semitic behavior, such as the display of Celtic crosses, fascist greetings, monkey cries and even photos in which

Anna Frank

is caricatured

, one of the victims of the Holocaust.

The club has rarely criticized the behavior of its more radical fans, although in January 2020 it required 16 fans who performed the fascist salute in a Europa League match against

Rennes

to participate in the payment of the fine imposed by UEFA.
